Home Education Paddlesports Course April-June 2025

Welcome to our Paddlesports Course, an exciting six-week programme designed for home-educated children age 12-17 to explore the wonders of kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).

 

Whether your child is a complete beginner or has some experience on the water, this course is perfect for building confidence, teamwork and a love for the great outdoors.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the River Severn, this hands-on course combines thrilling water-based activities with essential safety and skill-building lessons. With small group sizes and expert guidance, your child will enjoy a fun, safe, and memorable experience.

Why join our paddlesports course?

Paddlesports are an incredible way to connect with nature while staying active and learning new skills. From gliding across calm waters to navigating gentle currents, each session offers a unique blend of adventure, discovery, and personal growth.

Through this course, participants will:

  • Master paddling techniques for kayaks, canoes, and SUPs.

  • Build water safety awareness and rescue skills.

  • Develop teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

  • Enjoy the beauty and wildlife of the River Severn.

  • Work towards nationally recognized Paddle UK Discover or Explore Awards.

What to Expect:

  • Each week introduces new challenges and skills, culminating in a final canoe trip down the River Severn with a special steam train return. Highlights include:

  • Try-a-Craft Day: Get hands-on experience with kayaks, canoes, and SUP boards.

  • Kayak and Canoe Trips: Learn navigation, teamwork, and river-reading techniques on scenic routes.

  • SUP Skills Development: Improve balance, paddling techniques, and even try fun challenges like yoga poses.

  • Safety and Rescue Training: Gain confidence in water safety and rescue scenarios.

  • Final Adventure: Apply all your new skills on a canoeing expedition, ending with a celebratory steam train ride.

  • Location: River Severn and surrounding waterways.
